A Critical Cause Close to Home
Since it opened its doors, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Island Hospital has been serving the highest acuity patients in your community with courageous care.
Patients in the ICU are severely injured or ill. Often suffering from complex conditions, ICU patients need the most intensive care offered and with that, advanced technology. Technology cannot replace a provider in the room, but it can increase the level of care and support a provider can give to a patient.
Thanks to the help of Island Hospital Foundation donors, the hospital was able to invest Tele-ICU (eICU) equipment for the ICU in 2021. This technology allows patients to have access to intensivists (doctors who specialize in complex ICU medicine) 24/7 without having to be transferred for care.
As the presence of the pandemic persists, the need for enhanced ICUs in local hospitals has risen. Hospitals throughout Washington State and the rest of the U.S. are seeing ICUs reaching their capacity, leaving it up to local hospitals to provide elevated and enhanced ICU services unlike ever before.
In 2021 the Island Hospital ICU saw a significant increase in patients needing intensive care services from both COVID-19 and increased life-threatening injuries and sickness. As we have seen across the country, hospital ICUs have expanded and enhanced technology to care of the ever-rising number of patients who need intensive care and at Island Hospital this has demonstrated the critical need for upgraded technology.
By financially supporting the ICU, you can provide critical technology upgrades that increase positive patient outcomes and local access to leading-edge care. Your Heartstrings donation will fund:
Tilt beds, IV pumps, wall-mounted computers and more leading-edge technology to complement eICU technology.
Increased patient and provider safety equipment upgrades.
Keeping patients close to home for care.
You are critical to the cause. Join us down the rabbit hole and lets believe the impossible for the most critically ill.
